Guyanese express solidarity with Cuba

Guyana Georgetown. April 17, 2026. Representatives of the Cuba Solidarity Coalition in Guyana have held several public activities to appreciate Cuba's contribution to Guyana over decades, especially in healthcare. The activities included a walking tour through downtown Georgetown, a rally, and an exchange evening at a central location in the capital.The solidarity coalition, which includes the Guyana Trade Union Congress, the Guyana Haiti Support Group, the National Farmers Organization, the People's Victory Organization, and the Red Thread organization, stated that the activities aimed to publicly express gratitude to the Government and people of Cuba.

Participants highlighted the role Cuban medical professionals have played in Guyana for several decades, particularly in interior communities. The coalition also emphasized the impact of Cuba's scholarship program, through which hundreds of Guyanese have received training, especially in medicine, at Cuban institutions.Speakers expanded their message to include concerns about the current challenges facing Cuba, highlighting criticism of the U.S. blockade.The initiative was both a tribute to Cuba's legacy of solidarity with Guyana and a call to preserve cooperation between the two countries.
