Health Day celebrated in Ashaiman.

Miembros de la Misión Estatal de Cuba en Ghana realizaron una Jornada por la Salud en saludo al Día de África en la comunidad Ashaiman

Accra, 21 May 2022. - In Accra, near the Tema port area, the event was organised in coordination with the Ghana Trade Union Congress, TUC.

The programme began with a welcome to the Cubans by Mrs. Deborah Freeman, General Secretary of UNIWA and President of WESEDNET, followed by the words of comrade Naa Ayele Adifio, Communications Officer of the TUC and Chairperson of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in Ghana. Then Mrs. Mary Karimu, Head of International Relations of the TUC, took the floor.

On the Cuban side, the Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, Anette Chao García, spoke on behalf of the group of doctors and other members of the state mission, thanking them for the opportunity to exchange with the people of the community and to offer them help by sharing what we have. She assured that the Caribbean island has always been in Africa and for Africa supporting it from many areas, especially in the field of health. She mentioned that even in the most difficult times for Cuba due to the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States of America, Cuba continued to support the Ghanaian people. The ambassador also said that this activity was part of the Africa Day celebrations.

These Health Days were first launched in vulnerable communities last November 2021, bringing free medical care to people in need. Members of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Ghana have played an indispensable role in these events, that strengthen ties between peoples by demonstrating their worth as good human beings. Diplomatic colleagues from different countries have participated on several occasions, and this year we received the help of the Head of the Peruvian Mission in Ghana, Abel Cardenas.
