Oslo, October 18, 2023. Members of the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association and the Communist Party of Norway, as well as Cubans and Latin Americans settled in this country, diplomats from the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and friends in general, took part in a political-cultural event held in this city to pay tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara, on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of his fall in combat.
The president of the Friendship Association, Cihan Karakoc, was in charge of the introductory words of the event, in which the staff of the Cuban Embassy was also present.
The ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, highlighted that Che is a permanent source of inspiration for all Cubans, because, as the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, said on one occasion: “If a paradigm is needed, if a model is needed, if an example to imitate is needed for reaching such lofty objectives, men like Che are essential, men and women who imitate him, who are like him, who think like him”.
She stressed that Che´s example and legacy guide the Cuban people and the Revolution in facing the current difficulties associated to the global crisis, the strengthening of the US blockade and the presence of Cuba on the spurious list of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
“But the Cuban people do not give up, we grow stronger in the face of adversity and, with willingness, solidarity and unity, we move forward, always guided by Che's maxim of “Ever onward to victory,” the diplomat said.
On behalf of the Association, Ane Hoel, a member of its Board, referred to important aspects of Che's life, as well to his relevance for the revolutionary process in Cuba and worldwide.
The event, which also served to commemorate the Day of Indigenous Resistance, ended with a cultural segment in which Latin American song and poetry took center stage. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
