Heartwarming Visit of Cuban Ambassador to Rural School in Zimbabwe

Gokwe, Zimbabwe, October 25, 2025 – Dozens of children from the Gaza Hope Academy in this Zimbabwean village welcomed the Cuban Ambassador, Her Excellency Susellys Pérez Mesa, today with a message of solidarity from the Caribbean nation.

“We welcome the Head of Mission of Cuba and thank this sister nation for its support on such a significant date as the Southern African Development Community's Anti-Sanctions Day in support of Zimbabwe,” commented Dr. Norbert Hosho, director of the school located in a remote rural area some 270 kilometers southwest of the capital, Harare.

The diplomat, accompanied by Minister Counselor Luis Enrique González Acosta, greeted and spoke with the children and teenagers, as well as their teachers and representatives of the regional authorities.

We arrived convinced of the common battle against the unilateral coercive measures imposed on this country by the United States and its allies, as well as Washington's criminal blockade of Cuba for more than six decades, the Ambassador stated.

Our presence here on this Anti-Sanctions Day, she stated, reflects our nation's commitment and willingness to strengthen the bilateral ties forged in the heat of Zimbabwe's struggle for independence.

With attentiveness and expressions of gratitude for the gesture of visiting them and donating several English books to the school, the children listened to Pérez Mesa's remarks as she referred to the name of the Gaza Academy, the main scene of the genocide against Palestinians perpetrated by Israel with the support of the United States.

She also referred to the words on Palestine spoken by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla during the recent High-Level Segment of the UN General Assembly.

Visiting Gokwe, meeting its people and learning about its customs is an honor, the Ambassador declared, acknowledging the Zimbabwean people's resilience and the government's effective leadership in confronting the sanctions and advancing on the path to development.

Meanwhile, Hosho praised Cuba as an example of steadfastness in the face of the blockade and solidarity with the peoples of the world.

Following the presentation by the director of the institution of a book dedicated to Palestine and the consequences of the Israeli genocide, the diplomat wished success to everyone while visiting the new cultural center being built in the region and to residents, with whom she held a pleasant dialogue during their daily work.
