Declaration of the Hellenic Cuban Friendship Association
On June 23, 2021, a resolution will be discussed in the UN General Assembly that condemns and calls for the lifting of the unjust and illegal blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States. From 1992 until today the General Assembly has voted 28 resolutions with a large majority.
The suffocating blockade that has lasted 62 years by the United States violates the rights of the Cuban people and has cumulatively cost more than 145 billion dollars. The mere fact that it is based on Law 1917 "On trade with the enemy" in warlike conditions shows that it constitutes an openly aggressive position of the United States against Cuba and its people.
Even in the last two years under the conditions of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the US governments strengthened the blockade, especially the laws that impose unacceptable obstacles in relations with third countries with the aim of depriving the Cuban people even of the instruments. more fundamental to face the pandemic.
Despite the criminal blockade and the lack of materials and means caused by the attitude of the United States, Cuba not only successfully fights the battle against the coronavirus, but generously offers its internationalist aid to other countries and peoples, sending more than 3,700 medical personnel to almost 40 countries on all continents to contribute in the fight against the pandemic.
All the UN resolutions related to the end of the North American blockade have been adopted with an overwhelming majority, in 2016, the resolution has even passed unanimously.
Greece, within the framework of the UN, takes the side of almost all the States and has given a positive vote for the successive resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly on the lifting of the blockade against Cuba. The Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity calls on the government to support this resolution this year as well.
