Harare, March 2, 2026 – The Herald, Zimbabwe's leading newspaper, today reported Cuba's strong condemnation of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which it considers a threat to regional and international peace and security.
"Cuba condemns in the strongest terms the attacks perpetrated on February 28 by the United States and Israel, which violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran," stated the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
The attacks violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Persian nation and constituted a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law, the Foreign Ministry statement added.
According to Havana, as reported by The Herald, these actions undermined ongoing diplomatic efforts related to the Iranian nuclear program, and the Cuban government described the aggression as irresponsible and deliberate.
Cuba stated that the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv once again endanger regional and international peace, stability, and security, adding that their effects were already being felt in the Middle East.
The Caribbean nation joined international calls for an immediate cessation of the attacks, which, it asserts, have caused an undetermined number of civilian casualties, including children.
It also warned of an escalation of the conflict and the use of military force driven by hegemonic interests that could draw other countries in the region into the conflict, with unpredictable consequences.
The Zimbabwean newspaper reported on the call to preserve good neighborly relations between Iran and the Arab states at this delicate time, as well as for strict respect for the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, the sovereign equality of states, and non-interference in internal affairs.
The Foreign Ministry also urged the prohibition of the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
Cuba, as emphasized by The Herald, called on the UN Security Council to exercise its primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security and urged the General Assembly to mobilize the international community to restore peace with urgency and determination.
