The Herald Zimbabwe publishes call to lift US blockade of Cuba

Harare, September 24, 2025 – The Herald today published a call for international solidarity in Zimbabwe demanding the immediate lifting of the US blockade of Cuba, which has lasted more than 60 years.

The african nation's leading newspaper reflected Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa's call for global support in the context of the upcoming vote in the United Nations General Assembly on the resolution demanding an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the Caribbean island.

In its online version, The Herald published the Chief of Mission's statement on the eve of the thirty-third vote on the resolution, which "receives the almost unanimous support of UN members.

" The US government remains steadfast in implementing this cruel and illegal policy with the objective—according to the text—of deteriorating the population's standard of living, provoking dissatisfaction, despair, and irritation, as a means of fomenting a social uprising.

Furthermore, "Cuba's unjustifiable continued inclusion on the arbitrary and unilateral list of alleged sponsors of terrorism is dishonest and politically motivated," the leading outlet reported.

According to the newspaper, Cuba considers its inclusion on the list one of the most impactful measures to strengthen the deterrent and intimidating effects on third parties and has increased its country risk.

Remaining on the list, she added, causes serious difficulties for foreign investment, banking and financial operations, international trade, access to financing, fuel purchases, and suppliers of goods and inputs essential to economic development.

According to The Herald, the Caribbean country recognizes and appreciates the continued and almost unanimous support of the international community for efforts to end the embargo.

"In the current, particularly complex situation, we reiterate our gratitude for this valuable support and are confident that we can once again count on the traditional vote of Zimbabwe, which also faces the consequences of unilateral coercive measures," the Ambassador added.
