Harare, May 27, 2026 – Cuba is currently living under the threat of US military aggression, denounced the Ambassador of the Caribbean nation, Her Excellency Susellys Pérez Mesa, in statements to The Herald, Zimbabwe's leading newspaper.
The possibility of armed intervention has been reiterated by the US president himself on numerous occasions this year, including the potential deployment of an aircraft carrier off the coast of my country, the diplomat emphasized in an exclusive interview with Gibson Nyikadzino, columnist for the Zimpapers publishing group, to which The Herald belongs.
There is absolutely no justification for aggression against our country. Cuba does not threaten anyone and, on the contrary, defends itself with ideas and will do so with weapons if necessary, Pérez Mesa stated.
The Ambassador stated that her country's response is summarized in the more than six million compatriots who signed their commitment and willingness to defend the Homeland, among countless other examples that the noble and dignified Cuban people demonstrate daily.
According to the Head of Mission's words to the Zimbabwean newspaper, it is also reflected in the resilience and firm resolve to continue living in our free land, under very difficult imposed conditions, but with loyalty and respect for those who fought so tenaciously to achieve independence, especially in the year of the Centennial of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
She drew attention to the dangerous moment for humanity that we are witnessing, with an increasingly unstable international scenario, where there are attempts to normalize the use of force, unilateral coercive measures, cognitive and unconventional warfare, the illegal occupation of territories, the conquest of natural resources, and the disregard and violation of International Law.
As Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla stated, “We will continue to be deeply inspired by José Martí, convinced that Homeland is Humanity, and we will remain profoundly internationalist, like Fidel and Che, until the very end,” he affirmed.
During the interview, Pérez Mesa asserted that the Cuban people’s determination to overcome adversity and move forward, even in the worst circumstances, is unwavering, and in this endeavor, it is always better to have the helping hand of Zimbabwe.
According to the columnist, the Ambassador referred to the Caribbean nation’s historical ties with Africa, the positive evolution of bilateral relations, and the celebration of four decades of Cuban educational and medical cooperation, among other topics.
