Namibia, august 26 2022-. Presided over by President Hage Geingob, the main event for the 32nd anniversary of Heroes' Day, an event that honored the fallen heroes and heroines who died during the struggle for Namibia's independence, was held in the city of Mariental, Hardap region.
In his address, President Geingob said "Many rivers of blood were crossed, culminating in the legendary battle of Cuito Cuanavale, where the SWAPO freedom fighters, with the help of the Cuban internationalist forces and our brave Angolan comrades, South Africa and its international backers were conclusively defeated and agreement was reached on a transitional arrangement that would lead to the full liberation of Namibia.
This agreement included the beginning of elections supervised and controlled by the United Nations as stipulated in UN Resolution 435. Following the successful conclusion of these elections, Namibia was able to usher in independence on March 21, 1990. ¨ (end quote)
Referring to the current economic situation in the country, he said that the struggle for the economic emancipation of Namibians requires new heroes and heroines, and this is the time for them to step up to the challenge.
The massive act was attended by directors of the SWAPO Party, the presidency of the republic, the council of ministers, religious, cultural and social personalities, as well as a large representation of the accredited diplomatic corps in the country, highlighting the organizers of the event the presence of the representations of Angola and Cuba.
