High Commissioner of The Bahamas to the Caribbean Community points out current regional challenges

THE BAHAMAS, 26 February 2016. - The Ambassador of Cuba to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Ismara Vargas Walter, met with the High Commissioner of The Bahamas to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Mr. Picewell A. Forbes, also a Member of Parliament.

During the meeting, both parties discussed various topics of interest, in particular on the importance of continuing the dialogue CARICOM- Cuba.

High Commissioner Forbes mentioned some of the current challenges of the Caribbean region and stressed the importance of working together to that end. On the other hand, he spoke with optimism about the Cuban presidency of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

The Cuban Ambassador took advantage of this opportunity to exchange views on the regional events to be held during the year, specially the 5th CARICOM-Cuba Ministerial Meeting to follow up on the agreements of the 5th CARICOM-Cuba Summit as well as the 7th Summit of the ACS, scheduled for next June. Both events will be held in Havana, Cuba.

Likewise, both parties ratified the commitment to further strengthen the joint action for the unity of the two Caribbean nations.
