The high-ranking representative of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Vice Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío, elaborates on the situation facing Cuba, which is subjected to a cruel economic war.
In this regard, he states that "US or pro-US media outlets, such as the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and others, describe Cuba's current critical situation without any impartiality. In reality, they demonstrate enthusiasm and bias.
What is happening in Cuba is the result of a ruthless and disproportionate aggression, highly asymmetrical, unjust, and unjustified. The editors of these media outlets know this and offer no critical judgment whatsoever on the aggressor. Rather, they pass judgment on the challenges Cubans face in confronting the onslaught and rush to compete with one another to see who can most dramatically predict our realities."
No one can objectively underestimate the immense challenge. It would be colossal for any country. Not all have Cuba's experience in self-defense against 67 years of imperialist aggression in its various forms. Not all have a social justice system that facilitates taking the most equitable measures possible to cushion the blow and protect the population in essential needs and to the greatest extent possible. Not all have a socialist system capable of prioritizing resource allocation, incentivizing solidarity, curbing selfishness, and mobilizing the national will for such a difficult and gigantic task.
