The highest authorities of Saint Kitts and Nevis praise the work of Cuban medical personnel in the Federation.

Basseterre, April 3, 2025: When once again an attempt is made to demoralize the humanistic and solidarity work of international medical collaboration by the United States Department of State, with Marco Rubio at the head, an avalanche of reactions has been generated during the last month, mainly among our Caribbean brothers and sisters, who refuse to relegate Cuban medical services, that have sustained their health systems for more than two decades.

"Since 2003, St. Kitts and Nevis has welcomed Cuban professionals who did not come as outsiders, but as family, helping us build a stronger, healthier and more resilient nation," said the Prime Minister of this Federation, Honorable Dr. Terrance Drew, in an address to his people and the world on March 14.

Repeatedly, he has proudly stressed the valuable contribution of Cuban health professionals to the lives of his fellow citizens. He praised and thanked Cuba for its helping hand, not only in the field of assistance, but also in the training and education of human resources. In this sense, he has been used as an example on several occasions, as a graduate of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara. Likewise, in a recent press conference, he exhibited the fact that the first woman chief of surgery of the Federation, is also a graduate in Cuba, Dr. Joylette Woodley, as well as the chief medical officer, Dr. Davin Wilkin.

On the other hand, from the administrative point of view, responding directly to the disrespectful insinuations of the United States, about alleged violations of the labor law of Cuban medical personnel, the premier of Nevis, Honorable Mark Brantley, during a conference to the national press on March 31, was emphatic in warning that "Cuban professionals are subject to the same laws, the same benefits and responsibilities as the rest of their contracted colleagues in St. Kitts and Nevis."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Right Honorable Dr. Denzil Douglas, in tune with the rest of the leaders of CARICOM, expressed the importance of reciprocating Cuba firmly, for the support received, for the benefit to its people. In that regard, he expressed confidence in constructive engagement among peoples and stressed that his country will not allow itself to be dictated by external pressures. He highlighted its right as a nation to determine its own foreign policy, based on good relations with all countries, always working for the well-being of its citizens.

Cuba has been an undisputed leader in health promotion in the world. Our Caribbean brothers and sisters have confirmed this truth and crushed with solid arguments the brazen attempts to manipulate reality.
