Highlight the significance of the 60 years of diplomatic relations between both countries

Cuban Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne González, the First Secretary of the Embassy, ​​Julio César Sánchez, and Mr. Kwasi Owusu-Achaw, a Ghanaian optometrist and journalist graduated in Cuba, appeared before the live television program, Breakfast Show, in which they addressed different facets linked to the 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador informed that in Ghana that date will be commemorated on December 30, and that in Cuba it had already been celebrated on December 18, through a Political-Cultural Act developed at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), which was attended by the Vice President, Salvador Valdés Mesa.

During his presentation, the Ambassador addressed: the foundational process of diplomatic relations, signed on December 23, 1959; the role played by the then Prime Ministers, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, and as Ghana was the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to recognize the triumphant Cuban Revolution. He emphasized visits to Cuba, in the year of the 60th anniversary, made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as the training in Cuba of more than three thousand Ghanaian professionals.

The First Secretary, referred to the historical ties between Africa and Cuba, emphasizing the people-to-people ties that have been forged in the six decades, while Mr. Owusu, highlighted how the training received in Cuba has been essential in his technical-professional and human growth.

At the conclusion of the television presentation, the Panel members appeared before a Live Program on the radio station Uniq FM 95.7, where, in addition to highlighting the meaning of the 60 years of diplomatic relations, they answered questions from the radio listeners, about the perspectives on matter of bilateral cooperation, and about the "secrets" in the preparation of Cuban health professionals.
