Kingston, 7 December 2024. A representation of the Cuban state mission in Jamaica paid tribute to the Bronze Titan 128 years after his fall in combat, in front of the statue standing in his honour in Heroes Park in this city.
During the small ceremony, Antonio Maceo was remembered as a man of insuperable action and profound thought. It also ratified the validity of his political thought in the battle in defence of the conquests of the Cuban Revolution, in the face of the attempts of US imperialism to undermine the independence, sovereignty and unity of our people.
The monument to the distinguished Cuban patriot is the only one erected within the perimeter of Kingston's National Heroes Park to a foreign hero. It was donated by the people of Cuba in 1952, in recognition of the decision of the authorities of Jamaica, then a British colony, to offer Maceo asylum after the end of the Ten Years' War.
