Homage to José Martí and celebrations for the triumph of the Revolution from Sweden

Stockholm, Sweden- January 28, 2023- Solidarity friends, Cubans living in Sweden and members of the Swedish Communist Party, met this January 28 at the Cuban Embassy, to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the birth of José Martí and the 65 of the triumph of the Revolution. There was also a representation of Cubans residing in Iceland through videoconference.

The political-cultural act included the performance of the girl Mía de la Torre, who was one of the protagonists of the celebration when she declaimed “Versos Sencillos”  by Martí with great talent and passion. Victoria Andersson, president of the “Cubans for Cuba Association”, also delighted the asistents with an emotional interpretation of fragments from the story “The black doll”.

In the address of the ceremony, given by Yohanna Cordero, Third Secretary of the Embassy, Marti's thought was highlighted as a beacon and guide of the Cuban Revolution and of the centenary generation led by Fidel Castro.

The central words were pronounced by the Ambassador of Cuba, Alba Soto, who highlighted the continuity of the liberation struggles and denounced the imperialist aggressions, including the incorporation of Cuba in the spurious lists of countries that support terrorism or supposedly violate religious liberties. She also highlighted the importance of solidarity support.

Those present also condemned the injustice of the application for more than 60 years of the US blockade against Cuba and demanded, through a photograph with an allegorical phrase on the subject, its immediate cessation.

This is how a simple but emotionally charged tribute was developed, to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and to José Martí, the most universal of all Cubans, whose anti-colonialist and anti-imperialist sentiments laid the foundations for the Cuban Revolution and the desire for unity in Latin America.
