Kingston, 17 September 2025. In a private and emotional ceremony held at the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica, the Medal of Friendship was presented to the Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, former Prime Minister of Jamaica.
Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez presented the award, approved by Presidential Decree at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), to her husband, Mr. Errald Miller.
In his remarks, the Cuban diplomat emphasised that this distinction reflects the feelings of an entire people in recognition of her history of solidarity with Cuba and her contribution and unconditional commitment to the defence of the Cuban Revolution, peace, and the sovereignty and independence of peoples. He also recalled the ties that united ‘Sista P’ with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz.
With brief but heartfelt words, Errald Miller thanked the Cuban government and people, a nation that ‘has little but has given much to the peoples around the world.’
Present at the ceremony were Angela Brown Burke, Chairman of the People's National Party (PNP), close associates of Portia and members of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.
