The House of Representatives of the Jamaican Parliament approves a motion against the blockade for the seventeenth consecutive year.

Kingston, 21 October 2025. In an afternoon session and for the seventeenth consecutive year, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Jamaica approved on Tuesday, 21 October, a motion condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and demanding the exclusion of the island from the illegal list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism. The resolution was presented by the Honourable Alando Terrelonge, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

During the presentation, the negative effects of this criminal policy on the development of the Cuban people were denounced, as well as the island's limitations on regional cooperation as a result of the extraterritorial application of this genocidal policy.

The legislators highlighted the historic ties of brotherhood and collaboration between Cuba and Jamaica, especially in the areas of education and health. They also recognised the achievements of the Greater Antilles in the fields of medicine and biotechnology and its valuable contributions to South-South cooperation.

In supporting the motion, parliamentarians confirmed that Jamaica will maintain its historic position of supporting the presentation of the draft resolution ‘Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba’ to the United Nations General Assembly.

The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, attended this session of the legislative body as a special guest, where the will of the Jamaican Parliament, government and people to accompany the people and government of Cuba in the battle to end the genocidal blockade policy was ratified.
