The high-level delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) who visited Barbados between 26 and 30 May 2016 composed his First Vice President Elio Gamez and the Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Robert Hamilton, was received on his first day of work in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament by the Secretary General of the Labour Party (BLP), Senator Jerome Walcott, who was accompanied by Members of Parliament Cynthia Forde and Jeffrey Bistoc, and Assistant Patricia Parris.
By exposing the priorities of the joint work of ICAP, its First Vice President highlighted the many activities in the Latin America and the Caribbean, aimed at strengthening the integration of our peoples. In this context, the main events to be held in the second half of the year, to which the invitation was extended rigorously reviewed. In particular, the commemoration was highlighted in Barbados the 40th anniversary of the terrorist sabotage against the Cubana de Aviacion on the Barbadian territory in October 1976, whose main intellectual and material authors have not yet been brought to justice; and it was noted that the ICAP in Cuba will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Barbados. VIII also mentioned the Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba to be held in late July in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, inviting various political and social organizations Barbadians.
For his part, Senator Walcott recognized the historical position of BLP recognition to the friendship between the two nations, which has manifested itself in various areas such as education, health, sport, doing an analysis of the difficulties still confronting in the country for the certification of studies and employment of Barbadians medical graduates in Cuba, an issue that was discussed at a recent session in Parliament. Both MP, Mrs. Cynthia and Mr. Bistoc, reminisced important moments of bilateral political relations and noted other areas where these linkages can be strengthened.
