ICAP representative confirms strength of solidarity ties with Cuba in Ghana

The Acting Director of the Africa and Middle East Division of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Yahimí Rodríguez Flores, made a working visit to Ghana from October 15 to 21, where she completed an extensive program of activities, including meetings and interviews with the representatives of the Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba in the country.

During an act of solidarity with Cuba, where representatives of the organizations and personalities that make up this Campaign met, she exchanged, among others, with: Mr. Kofi Attor, his Coordinator and Director of International Relations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ; Mr. Alexander Nyarko-Opoku, First Vice President of the Trades Union Congress of Ghana (TUC), who in 2017, represented his country in the XII International May Day Brigade; Ambassador Kojo Amoo Gottfried, Ghana's first Ambassador to Cuba and an outstanding supporter of Cuba; Professor Albie Walls, leader of the All-African People's Revolutionary Party (A-APRP) and Ms. Nana Gya Gyanfua, who together with her young baby Ché Priddy, represented Ghana in the V Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, held in June 2017, in Windhoek, Namibia. Also present were members of the Association of Ghanaian Graduates in Cuba (ESBECAN) and a group of young members of the XIII International May Day Brigade last April.

The Acting Director was also received at the headquarters of the Ghana Socialist Forum (FSG), by its Secretary General, Professor Justice Henaku, who she thanked for the historical support to Cuba. Accompanied by the Cuban Ambassador and member of the Embassy staff, she visited the "Kwame Nkrumah" Mausoleum, where she was received by its Director, Dr. Isaac Abubakar Ousmar. During the tour, she had the opportunity to broaden her knowledge about the life and work of the first President of the Republic of Ghana.

The ICAP official toured the University of Ghana, where she interacted with students and a group of Spanish language teachers. She was also present at the Press Conference on the blockade offered by the Cuban Ambassador, and at the 7th Meeting of Cuban Residents in Ghana. She was also recognized by representatives of the TUC, and the Private Universities Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG), which expressed their gratitude for the dedication shown by her in her attention to the brigadistas.

The acting director, after finishing her program in Ghana, traveled to Nigeria, the third stage of her journey through the region. She was seen off at the Accra International Airport, by the Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne González, and members of the Cuban staff.
