Jakarta, May 22- The Indonesian National Boxing team attended the 32nd Southeast Asia Games 2023, headed by the Cuban boxing coach, Bárbaro Fernández Jiménez.
As part of the existing sports collaboration between Cuba and Indonesia, the Cuban boxing coach traveled with the Indonesian boxers to Cambodia, the host country of the event, held from May 5 to 17, and in five provinces of this Asian nation, namely: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, Kampot and Kep.
The Cuban coach traveled to the games with a team made up of a total of 8 athletes: three women and five men, in different classes, who, according to the coach's own appreciation, "were very enthusiastic about participating in the largest sporting event in the southeast Asian and confident in their preparation”.
Before starting the competitions, in a joint official statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Central Executive of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (PP Pertina), the national press was informed of the excellent preparation offered by the Cuban coach during the six months before the Games, which included preparatory games in Morocco and Thailand, so they were confident that the team would obtain several medals, especially with the two favorite Indonesian boxers: Maikhel Roberrd Muskita and Huswatun Hasanah.
Both, the Indonesian Boxing Association and the Cuban coach, announced that according to forecasts, the Indonesian National Team, the one with the highest average age of 21 to 30 years, would have athletes from Thailand and Vietnam as their main opponents.
The Southeast Asian Games are considered a preparation for the Asian Games and, finally, for the Olympic Games, for all of which the historic sports collaboration of the largest of the Antilles will be an important contribution to the projected successful results of the Indonesian team.
On this occasion, the Indonesian delegation also traveled with its national men's football and badminton team.
