Jakarta, January 16th - The director of America I of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Ms. Zelda Kartika, received the Ambassador of Cuba H.E. Tania Velázquez in the morning of this Thursday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the cordial meeting, both diplomats reviewed the most recent aspects of bilateral collaboration between Indonesia and Cuba.
On the occasion, the Cuban ambassador delivered copies of the messages that the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz - Canel Bermúdez and the Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla sent to their respective Indonesian counterparts, President Joko Widodo and Minister Retno Marsudi, in occasion of the 60th Anniversary of bilateral relations.
In addition, the Antillean diplomat conveyed Cuba's will to continue expanding ties of friendship and cooperation with Indonesia in the context of the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The occasion was conducive to review a group of joint actions that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba will jointly develop to commemorate this date.
Cuba and Indonesia formalized their diplomatic ties on January 22, 1960. In May of that year, Indonesias´s founder father Sukarno payed a historic visit to Cuba. He was the first head of state to do so after the triumph of the Revolution.
