Jakarta, 24 July .- The online newspaper Republik Merdeka published an article warning that the United States' comments on the recent unrest in Cuba are part of Washington's attempts to justify a military intervention on the island.
Referring to statements by the deputy director of the US Department of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Johana Tablada, the article states that Washington has misrepresented the situation in Cuba, describing the events of July 11 as an attempt by the Cuban people to achieve their independence. When citing what was declared by Deputy Director Johana, the text includes the following:
"There is a Walt Disney narrative of the bad government and the people fighting for their freedom, stereotypes that scare anyone who has ever set foot in Cuba because of their arrogance and disregard for the truth." "They are very interested in fabricating an alternative reality because they did not reach the riots of July 11 to justify the war against us."
He also underlined what Johanna pointed out, noting that, although there are currently no military movements to the island, there are "signs" of extreme aggressiveness, such as those that led to an intervention in Libya or Iraq at the time, citing his words: "We are at a time when discourse has deteriorated to unprecedented levels. From the Biden government to Cuba, we have seen parading several times a day, every day since July 11, senior US officials saying things that are not true. "
The text also notes that the Cuban Government has reiterated that the current economic crisis that the island is going through has been caused mainly by the reinforcement of the sanctions imposed by the United States on Cuba during the Donald Trump administration.
