International Seminar: Strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Cuba.

Jakarta, October 14, 2024. The Cuban Embassy participated in the International Seminar: Strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Cuba in economy, education and culture, on October 14, 2024, organized by the UPN Veterans University of East Java in Surabaya, especially by the Center for Latin American Studies of that University led by Dr. Ignatia Martha H.

Dagmar González Grau, Cuban Ambassador to Indonesia and to ASEAN, and Nana Juliana, Indonesian Ambassador to Cuba, participated as speakers.

Academics from other study centers, authorities from the Government of the City of Surabaya and hundreds of students from the International Relations Studies Program from 12 Indonesian Universities attended.

The Rector of UPN Veterans of East Java, Prof. Dr. Ir. Akahmad Fauzi expressed that this event contributed to strengthening bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Cuba to continue having an open dialogue and discuss future strategies and challenges.

The Cuban Ambassador to Indonesia shared the background of this Cooperation and the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries, which will be 65 years old in January 2025. She explained the effects that Cuba has had to endure for more than 62 years due to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba. This topic motivated most of the students' questions. She also addressed the current state of bilateral relations in economics, education and culture and the challenges and possibilities to strengthen these relations.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Cuba, Nana Juliana, complemented the presentation by providing information about Cuba, the latest bilateral instruments for cooperation signed, the scholarships offered by both parties and the activities and initiatives carried out to strengthen bilateral relations.
