INVITATION TO THE REGIONAL MEETING OF AMERICA & CARIBBEAN OF THE WORLD PEACE COUNCIL May 6, 2022 - Guantánamo, Cuba
Dear Comrades and Friends,
The World Peace Council (WPC) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), which has assumed the tasks and responsibilities of Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples in Cuba, having incorporated officially in its functions the MOVPAZ, guaranteeing at the same time the continuity of the Coordination of the WPC in the America &Caribbean, are happy to call upon and invite the WPC Member and Friendly Organisations to the Regional Meeting which will take place on 6th May 2022 in the Cuban province of Guantanamo, right after the holding of the VII. International Seminar for Peace and the abolition of Foreign Military Bases, the days before (4-5 May)
This year is the 60th anniversary of the imposition of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba by the USA, fostered further by the 243 sanctions listed by the former US president D. Trump, and the inclusion of the island in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism that have been maintained unchanged by the current US president Joe Biden despite the promises made during his election campaign to eliminate some of them. These sanctions have become even more inhuman during these two years of the brutal pandemic.
Despite the growing genocidal war, Cuba has produced a number of vaccines against Covid 19 which have been provided for free to up to 88% of the people, including all children, and which have been exported to countries upon their request. Cuba is providing by this a safe, responsible and secured stay to its visitors.
Several online thematical events took place during these years while the Pandemic was spreading and two online regional meetings were held in the year 2021. However we consider it necessary and useful to hold our (in-person) Regional Meeting which has also a preparatory character for the coming XXII. World Assembly of the WPC, to be held tentatively at the end of August/ Beginning September in Hanoi/Vietnam.
The slogan of the Assembly will be: “We strengthen the anti-imperialist struggle and solidarity, for a world of Peace and Social Justice”
In the (draft) agenda we shall discuss with the participation of all:

2. SITUATION IN OUR REGION
3. ORGANIZATIONAL&FINANCIAL MATTERS
4. PLAN OF ACTION for the coming period
5. OUTCOME
All members and friendly Organisations are welcome to suggest and propose topics of interest to be included in the above draft agenda.
