The Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul hosted a moving act of solidarity to commemorate July 26, Cuba’s National Rebellion Day. The event brought together members of the Cuba solidarity movement, representatives of social organizations, and friends of the Cuban Revolution.
The event featured remarks by the Consul of Cuba in Istanbul, Lisvan Aleaga Tamayo, and Aslıhan Çakaloğlu, a member of the leadership of the Turkey-Cuba Friendship Association “José Martí.” In their remarks, they highlighted the historic significance of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks as a foundational event in the Cuban revolutionary process, reaffirming the continuing relevance of the ideals of sovereignty, independence, and social justice defended by the Cuban people.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the enduring solidarity of the Turkish people with Cuba and highlighted the work carried out by the Turkey-Cuba Friendship Association “José Martí” in strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two peoples. They also denounced the intensification of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the Government of the United States against Cuba, which they described as an ongoing crime that affects the economic development and well-being of the Cuban people.
The commemoration concluded with a firm commitment to continue promoting solidarity with Cuba and strengthening the bonds of cooperation and friendship between the peoples of Türkiye and Cuba. Participants reaffirmed their support for the Cuban people’s right to freely determine their own destiny, without external interference, and paid tribute to the historic legacy of July 26 as a symbol of resistance, dignity, and the struggle for justice.
