Savanna-la-Mar, 24 May 2023. Members of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica headed by Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez and the coordinator of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica Dr. Katia Ochoa Aguilar, authorities of Jamaican health institutions and members of the movement of solidarity with Cuba celebrated the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the International Medical Collaboration at the Savanna-la-Mar Public Hospital.
During the emotional ceremony, the altruism of the Cuban collaborators, who for six decades have provided their services in the most intricate regions of the world, facing natural and health disasters, was recognised. It was ratified the will to continue to raise high the humanist and solidary work of the Cuban Revolution, committed to health and life.
As part of the celebrations, a commemorative plaque was placed in this institution, the site where medical collaboration began in the sister Caribbean nation 47 years ago with the presence of 14 aid workers.
Currently, the Medical Brigade working in Jamaica, composed of doctors, nurses and health technologists, is represented in all regions and parishes of the country.
