Kingston, 27 July 2026. Organised by the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica, the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba and the Association of Cubans Residing in Jamaica (ACRJ), a ceremony marking the 73rd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks took place on the afternoon of 26 July.
The event was attended by Angela Brown Burke, Chairman of the People’s National Party (PNP); representatives of the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism (LANDS), the Pan-African People’s Party, PNP-Patriots, the Jamaican Peace Council (JPC) and graduates from Cuba.
In a ceremony marked by a heartfelt tribute to the heroes and martyrs of this historic feat, Osvaldo Cárdenas Junquera, Trevor Brown, Christopher Simpson, Sabrina Metwinter and Arlene Blake-McCain recalled in their remarks the events of 26 July and highlighted the valuable lessons to be learnt from them, which remain relevant today. They condemned the latest imperialist onslaught against our country and reaffirmed their solidarity with the Greater Antilles.
As part of the programme, those present highlighted the strategic vision and leadership of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and reaffirmed that, as the generation marking the centenary of his birth, they remain faithful to his legacy in defending the achievements of the Revolution.
In her address to those present, The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Tania López Larroque, highlighted the impact of the Centenary Generation on our country’s history. She also reaffirmed the Cuban people’s determination to overcome the adversities imposed by the US government’s genocidal policy of the blockade.
