Kingston, 26 July 2023. Convened by the Cuban state mission in Jamaica, the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks took place on the afternoon of 26 July.
The event was attended by Mark Golding, Leader of the Opposition and Chairman of the People's National Party (PNP); representatives of the PNP youth wing, the PNP women's movement, Young Jamaica and the Left Alliance for Democracy and Socialism (LANDS). Also participating were graduate students in Cuba, members of the Solidarity Movement and the Association of Cuban Residents.
In a ceremony marked by a heartfelt tribute to the heroes and martyrs of this heroic deed, health workers recalled the actions of 26 July and highlighted their valuable lessons, which are still valid today.
In this context, the voluntary blood donations to the Bustamante Paediatric Hospital, which contributed to the performance of cardiovascular operations on Jamaican infants, were acknowledged.
The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Rolando Dávila Gallardo, in his speech to those present, highlighted the mark of the Centenary Generation in the history of our country. He also ratified the will of the Cuban people to resist the adversities imposed by the genocidal policy of the blockade of the US government, because as expressed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, "the option of surrender was erased from the DNA of Cubans".
As part of the celebration, the poems "Era la mañana de la Santa Ana" by Indio Naborí and "Canto al 26" by Valeriano Bruno Suárez Carralero were recited and traditional Cuban music was played.
