Kingston, 8 October 2025. The Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica hosted a meeting to commemorate historical events that marked the history of Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean in the month of October. Members of the State Mission, the Solidarity Movement and the Cuban community were present, as well as representatives of political forces, social movements and graduates in our country.
Members of the Educational Brigade commemorated the 133rd anniversary of the first trip of Cuba's National Hero to Jamaica, recognising the influence of Jamaican emigration during the preparations for the necessary war and as an effective backguard during the three years of the independence struggle.
Health collaborators highlighted the mark left by the Heroic Combatant on the struggles against imperialism taking place around the world, especially in Latin American and Caribbean nations. They emphasised the virtues possessed by Che, described by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz as a ‘true model of a revolutionary’.
Osvaldo Cárdenas Junquera, on behalf of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica, paid tribute to the victims of the Barbados crime and to the more than 3,000 people who have lost their lives and the more than 2,000 who have been injured as a result of terrorist actions against our country. He also reiterated his condemnation of the continued inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
In his remarks to those present, the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, underscored the historical significance of the Ten Years' War as the driving force behind the independence process that culminated in the triumph of the Revolution on 1 January 2025. He also reaffirmed the will of our people to continue building the history of our homeland despite the serious effects imposed by the genocidal policy of the blockade.
As part of the event, the sonnet ‘10 de Octubre’ was recited, and the song ‘Hasta siempre Comandante’ was performed.
