Kingston, Jamaica, 21 April 2020. The Jamaica Patriotic Movement (JPM) today thanked Cuba for its selfless help in sending a medical brigade to its nation to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr. Carlos Daley, President of the JPM, expressed his gratitude to Prensa Latina on behalf of the Jamaican people for the humanism of the Cuban government in its tireless effort to contribute to the well-being of those who need medical care.
The political leader pointed out the need for bringing the community together to discuss, plan, put aside small disagreements and work in favour of preserving the lives of citizens amid the threat of the novel coronavirus, SAR-CoV-2. Daley highlighted Cuba's altruistic willingness to assist those in need in difficult times, as is the case today with assistance in treating the pathogen and training health officials in most Third World nations.
Likewise, he condemned the commercial and financial sanctions by the United States government that slow down the development of the Greatest Island in the Antilles, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
"We extend our solidarity to the Cuban people in the fight against unilateral measures, it is not a time to divide, it is a time to unite," he stressed.
During his exchange with Prensa Latina, the JPM’s leader praised Cuba's strengths to overcome the interventionist actions of Donald Trump’s administration and ratified the friendship of the Jamaican nation.
"It is necessary to shout louder for the richest countries to lift all sanctions and the blockade and allow humanitarian aid to reach people and save lives," he stressed.
Founded last year, the JPM seeks a place on the Jamaican political scene to raise awareness and show people the way forward to make "our country the place to live".
