Jamaica Peace Council nominates the Medical Contingent “Henry Reeve” to the Nobel Peace Prize .

Kingston, Jamaica, 6 December 2020. Jamaica Peace Council - a non-governmental organization that seeks to raise public awareness on issues related to regional and world peace and mobilize Jamaicans living in the country and abroad to contribute to the creation of a world free from wars - sent a letter last Friday to Berit Reiss-Andersen, President of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and all other members of this organization responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize, to nominate the International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disasters and Serious Epidemics “Henry Reeve” for the prize.

The letter, through which JPC seeks to make its nomination official, states that the proposal is made in recognition of the unparallel sacrifices that the members of the Contingent have made in their mission to save human lives across the globe in major disasters and health crises, given that, since the creation of the Contingent in 2005, the more than 9,000 Cuban health professionals who have participated in its missions have provided emergency medical assistance to approximately 4 million people and have saved the lives of more than 89,000 people worldwide.

In September this year, the World Peace Council formally registered the “Henry Reeve” Medical Contingent’s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize.
