The People's National Party of Jamaica welcomes Cuban health professionals
The People’s National Party (PNP) welcomes the team of Cuban medical professionals who arrived in the island today to help in the fight against the COVID-19 crisis.
The Cuban COVID-19 response team comprises 140 medical professionals, which includes 90 specialist nurses (including critical care, emergency, medical surgical and primary care nurses), 46 doctors (including internists and haematologists) and four therapists.
The PNP said at a time when Cuba itself is engaged in its own battle against coronavirus and continues to face the harsh reality of unjustified economic sanctions; the neighbouring island maintains its spirit of generosity and answered the call from Jamaica once again.
Leader of the Opposition and President of the Party, Dr Peter Phillips, M.P., last week reached out to the Cuban authorities to access its anti-viral drug Interferon Alpha 2B, which is among 30 such drugs being used in the fight against the COVID-19 virus in other jurisdictions.
