Kingston, 7 December 2023. A representation of the Cuban state mission in Jamaica, headed by Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez and Tamara Armenteros, from the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), paid tribute to the Bronze Titan 127 years after his fall in combat, in front of the statue raised in his honour in Heroes Park in this city.
During the small ceremony, Antonio Maceo was defined as a man of unsurpassable action and profound thought. The validity of his political thought in the defence of the achievements of the Revolution, in the face of the attempts of US imperialism to undermine the independence, sovereignty and unity of our people, was also ratified.
The monument to the distinguished Cuban patriot is the only one erected within the perimeter of the National Heroes Park in Kingston to a foreign hero. It was donated by the people of Cuba in 1952, in recognition of the decision of the authorities of Jamaica, then a British colony, to offer Maceo asylum after the end of the Ten Years' War.
