Kingston, 7 October 2024. Members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica (ACRJ) ‘Antonio Maceo’, the Cuba Solidarity Movement, and different political, youth and social movements, as well as a representation of the state mission convened at the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica to pay tribute to the victims of state terrorism against Cuba and to commemorate for the second year the CARICOM-Cuba Day against Terrorism.
The event began with a minute of silence in homage to the 73 victims of the Cubana de Aviación plane that was blown up in mid-flight on October 6, 1973; as well as the 3478 sons and daughters of our homeland who lost their lives and the 2099 who were injured as a result of terrorist actions.
During interventions by representatives of the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism (LANDS), the Kingston chapter of the Friends of Cuba Association and the Association of Jamaican Graduates in our country, an end to the blockade and the removal of Cuba from the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism were demanded. The resistance of the Cuban people and the will to continue the creative work of the Revolution, despite the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government, was recognised. A call was made for the unity of the peoples of the Caribbean to confront US imperialism.
In his address to those present, the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sanchez, denounced the nefarious impact of the genocidal policy of the blockade and demanded the elimination of the island from the illegal list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism. The diplomat also reiterated Cuba's position against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
