From Jamaica, voices of solidarity call for end to the blockade

Desde Jamaica, voces solidarias exigen levantamiento del bloqueo

Savanna-la-Mar, 21 October 2023. Convened by the Westmoreland chapter of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association (JCFA) an act of solidarity with our country took place. Present at the event were the Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, the Mayor of Westmoreland Mr. Bertel Moore, representatives of the solidarity movement, graduates from the island, Cuban residents, local authorities and collaborators of the medical and educational brigades working in this sister nation.

In the speeches, the work developed by Cuban aid workers since the 1970s was highlighted, and thanks were expressed for the scholarships offered by the Antillean nation for higher education. The support of the Jamaican people in the battle waged by our country to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US was ratified, and the elimination of Cuba from the spurious list of State sponsors of terrorism unilaterally drawn up by the US government was demanded.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked those present for their expressions of brotherhood and solidarity. He summarised the main effects of the genocidal blockade on the Cuban economy and health sectors, while pointing out the systematic violations of the human rights of the Cuban people committed under this policy.
