Kingston, 17 May 2024. Convened by the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica, the Cuban Educational Brigade and the Simon Bolivar Cultural Centre, a tribute to our National Hero took place on the occasion of the 129th anniversary of his fall in battle. The event was attended by students and professors from schools in the Kingston, Portmore and St. Thomas regions.
Through the Simple Verses, songs, poems and letters dedicated to the Apostle, the new generations of Jamaicans and Cuban residents were approached to the strands of Marti's thought. The occasion was an opportunity to demonstrate the skills acquired in the Spanish language.
In his remarks to those present, the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez highlighted the ideas and actions of Simón Bolívar, José Martí and our Commander in Chief, in favour of the unity of the peoples of Latin America. He called for the work of Martí to be kept alive in every classroom with the presence of a Cuban educator.
This initiative was multiplied throughout the Jamaican geography in the educational centres that have members of the Educational Brigade, especially in the parish of St. James.
