Kingston, Jamaica, May 30 , 2017.-The Scholarships Programme to study Medical Sciences of the Government of Cuba and the ceremony to award nine of these scholarships to Jamaican students was widely covered by the media.
The ceremony, celebrated last May 24th, at the Embassy of Cuba in Kingston, was attended by high officials of the Jamaican Government and covered by The Observer, on of the two most important newspapers of the country, news agency JIS and Loop Jamaica.
The Observer published in its prindted edition a large article entitled “Eight awarded Cuba scholarships”, that cited the remarks offered by the Ambassador of Cuba, Bernardo Guanche Hernández.
The article used data offered by the Cuban diplomat to highlight the wide and historic cooperation of Cuba with the most needed nations. "During the last 50 years, Cuba has offered its collaboration to 186 countries. At present, more than 3 000 foreign students study in Cuba, 91% of these in careers related to Medicine. In the case of Jamaica, 42 students from the bilateral programme graduated last year", explained.
Likewise, the Jamaica Information System, JIS, (“Eight Jamaicans to pursue medical studies in Cuba”) stressed the presence of Ambassador Marcia Gilbert-Roberts, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, who praised the quality of the health system in Cuba and thanked for the opportunity offered to her country´s youth.
"Cuban health system is acknowledged as the best in the world. There´s none other better in terms of health public management, specially, at the primary level", JIS cited the Caribbean diplomat.
Loop Jamaica, online magazine with great impact on Jamaica, the Caribbean and the diaspora in United States, Canada and United Kingdom, highlighted through its article “Cuba presents 8 medical scholarships to Jamaican youngsters”, the remarks by the head of Cuban diplmacy in Kingston while recognizing the quality of Cuba´s educational system.
“Cuba is acknowledged by the high literacy rate and the importance it grants to education. The country continues to send teachers all over the world as beacons of light for the cause of education", it referred.
