Kingston, 15 September 2022. On the afternoon of Wednesday 14 September, the Jamaican Parliament approved by consensus a Resolution condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the government of the United States of America against Cuba.
In the broad debate that followed the presentation of the text, legislators from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People's National Party (PNP) denounced the blockade as an act of unilateral aggression, a violation of human rights and a transgression of the right to peace, development and security of the Cuban people; as well as the inclusion of Cuba on the illegal list of State sponsors of terrorism drawn up by the United States government.
During the conclave, examples were given of the effects of the extraterritoriality of the blockade on trade and financial relations between Cuba and Jamaica; and thanks were reiterated to Cuba for its cooperation with Jamaica, the Caribbean and other peoples of the world in various fields, including health and education.
The Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, attended this session of Parliament as a special guest, where the will of the Jamaican people to accompany Cuba in the battle to put an end to this genocidal policy was ratified.
