Kingston, Jamaica, 30 June 2021. On June 29 in the afternoon, the Parliament of Jamaica unanimously approved a Resolution condemning the economic, commercial and financial embargo of the United States against Cuba.
Legislators from the two parties represented in Parliament explained the various effects caused by this unilateral policy and reiterated the extraterritorial nature of the blockade that prevents Cuba from establishing normal commercial relations with third countries, including Jamaica. In the same way, they referred to the double impact of this policy in a scenario marked by a pandemic.
By supporting the project, the parliamentarians expressed their admiration and respect for the Cuban people for their endurance, for the achievements made in various social spheres, as well as for their internationalist support, despite the blockade. In this regard, they highlighted the assistance provided by the neighbouring country to Jamaica. They also spoke about the decisive role played by the largest island in the Antilles in the fight against Covid 19 and the assistance provided to Jamaica in its preparation in this regard.
The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández, attended this session of Parliament as a special guest, where the will of the Jamaican people to accompany Cuba in the battle to put an end to this genocidal policy was ratified.
