Jamaican physician thanks Cuba for her training

Dr. Kamille Goulbourne-Anderson, who graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in Santiago de Cuba, expressed her gratitude to Cuba for her professional training as a doctor.

Kingston, Jamaica, 25 April 2019. During a meeting organized at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission with young Jamaicans interested in pursuing university studies in the Largest Island in the Greater Antilles, Dr. Kamille Goulbourne-Anderson, who graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in Santiago de Cuba, expressed her gratitude to Cuba for her professional training as a doctor.

The specialist, who was awarded a scholarship offered by the Cuban Government, shared her experiences and impressions about Cuba and refered to what it meant for her to study in that country.

Doctor Goulbourne-Anderson reminded those present that, despite lack of material resources, she always had everything she needed to carry out her studies and acknowledged the high level of seriousness and thoroughness of teachers and other staff members at the school where she studied. She also talked to her fellow citizens about the humanistic and preventive nature of the revolutionary public health system, and how those experiences acquired in Cuba have helped her in her professional performance.

The meeting, organized in conjunction with the Jamaica Cuba Friendship Association, served as a favourable framework to answer questions from the audience about the current situation in Cuba, to comment on the presence in Jamaica of nearly four hundred health and education collaborators, and to discuss the impact of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States of America on the Cuban people and on individuals and institutions from third countries that are related to our country.

The young people were received by Mr. Ulises Calvo Borges, Third Secretary at the Embassy, who gave them an overview of education in Cuba and of the possibilities that foreign students are offered to study in the island.
