Jamaican press describes as commendable Cuba’s progress in the development of vaccines against COVID-19

Kingston, Jamaica, 31 March 2021. In an article entitled “A case for Cuban vaccines against COVID-19,” the Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner discussed in today’s edition the advances that Cuba has made in the vaccine research and development.

"This is a truly commendable achievement for Cuba, a small state that, among many, has four vaccines registered by the World Health Organization (WHO) in various stages of development," stated the Jamaican newspaper.

After acknowledging that Cuba may become the first Latin American country to produce its own vaccine, the article recognizes the possibility of CARICOM member states benefiting from Cuban vaccines, once the corresponding clinical trials and procedures have been completed.

Commending Cuba's experience in biotechnology and immunology, The Gleaner emphasized that the Greatest Island in the Antilles produces eight of the 13 vaccines that are administered in that Caribbean nation.
