Jamaican solidarity organization salutes Cuba's assistance against COVID-19

Statement of the Jamaica Cuba Friendship Association, saluting Cuba’s assistance in the struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic

The Jamaica Cuba Friendship Association joins with our other sister solidarity organisations, in expressing our deep and heart-felt gratitude, to the government and people of Cuba for their continued assistance to our country in times of need, with the struggle against the current COVID-19 being another such occasion.

We are just one of numerous countries across the world, that have benefitted from Cuba’s internationalism and to highlight a few, that include the Chernobyl disaster in eastern Europe, earthquakes in Pakistan and our sister country of Haiti and more recently the Ebola Crisis in our motherland, Africa.

We also must never forget that, these self-less acts of solidarity, is against a background of almost 60- years of the most brutal, inhumane, genocidal and illegal blockade in the history of humankind imposed by the most economic and military powerful country in the world, USA.

Cuba continues to be the beacon of hope for all of us who struggle for a better world and no amount of lies , half-truths, bribery and bullying can shake the majority of humanity’s people , who call for a lifting of this criminal blockade which prevents our sister country from achieving its full potential as a revolutionary society.

Fidel words resonate now as it was when he first said: “Our country does not launch bombs against other people, or send thousands of planes to bomb cities. Our country does not have nuclear weapons, chemical or biological. The tens of thousands of doctors and scientists which our countries have were educated to save lives. This is the pride of our doctors and our research centres. Tens of thousands of Cuban doctors have provided international service in the outermost and most inhospitable places. One day I said we will never send or never make preventive and surprising attacks against any dark corner of the world. But instead our country will be able to send doctors that will be needed in the darkest corners of the world. Doctors not bombs, doctors not smart weapons with accurate targeting because at the end of the day a weapon that kills treacherously is absolutely not a smart weapon’.

Long live the Cuban Revolution!

Long live the proletarian internationalism!

We shall overcome!
