José Daniel Ferrer García departs from Cuba at the request of the government of the United States

Communiqué of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba

The Cuban citizen José Daniel Ferrer García, accompanied by several members of his family, who are also Cuban citizens, has departed from the national territory of Cuba this October 13, 2025.

His departure from Cuba for the United States takes place in response to a formal request by the government of that country and the express consent of Ferrer García and in compliance with all law enforcement formalities established between both countries.

This procedure was based on a thorough evaluation of the legal status of Ferrer García by the Prosecution; the observance of the due process; the consideration of the specific circumstances of the case and the exercise of the powers legally vested upon the relevant institutions.

In January, 2025, Ferrer García was granted the benefit of an early release from prison when he was serving a sentence of 4 years and 6 months. After the occurrence of several breaches of obligations and legal requirements imposed by the Court, as established in the Criminal Enforcement Law and its Regulations, this benefit was revoked in April this year.

Ferrer García remained subject to the precautionary measure of pre-trial detention imposed by the Prosecution, since he was being accused of the commission of a new crime. Once the investigation concluded, this body, in conformity with its legal faculties, decided to modify the precautionary measure of pre-trial detention.

The Cuban State reiterates its unwavering commitment to law enforcement; the protection of the rights of all persons; the defense of our sovereignty against disparagement campaigns and the preservation of peace and the constitutional order.
