Kingston, 16 May 2023. The Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica, in coordination with the Simon Bolivar Cultural Centre, inaugurated the temporary exhibition "José Martí and the Cuban Revolution", as a tribute to our National Hero on the 128th anniversary of his fall in combat. Present at the opening ceremony were members of youth organisations, members of the Cuba solidarity movement, students from St. Aloysius Primary School and a representation of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica.
The Second Secretary of the diplomatic mission Rolando Dávila Gallardo highlighted the main objective of the exhibition: to illustrate the validity of Marti's thought in the humanist work of the Revolution. He stressed the importance for the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean to remain united "like the silver at the roots of the Andes", in order to confront the hegemonic plans of US imperialism.
As part of the activity, the students recited a selection of the Simple Verses of our Apostle, demonstrating the skills acquired in Spanish.
In this context, the Cuban Embassy donated books to the library of the Simon Bolivar Centre, which will allow readers to approach the thought and revolutionary work of our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, José Martí and Antonio Maceo.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 19 June.
