José Martí Technical High School celebrates the 173rd anniversary of the birth of the Apostle

Spanish Town, 28 January 2026. Students and teachers at José Martí Technical High School held a special morning ceremony today to mark the 173rd anniversary of the birth of the Apostle. The event was attended by representatives of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica, led by Ambassador Tania López Larroque.

During the dialogue with those present, the Cuban diplomat referred to Martí's work dedicated to children and young people, ‘those who know how to love.’ She stated that the best tribute to Cuba and its National Hero is to study, to strive every day to be good men and women, destroying the walls of ignorance. She also reaffirmed that, despite the limitations imposed by the genocidal policy of the blockade, our country continues the work of Martí and the Commander-in-Chief on the centenary of his birth, a work of love, fraternity, solidarity and internationalism.

For their part, Jamaican and Cuban students recited the poem ‘I Grow a White Rose’ and performed the song ‘Guantanamera’.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, visitors paid tribute to José Martí before the bust that honours his memory.
