José Martí Technical High School celebrates the 48th anniversary of its foundation.

Spanish Town, 10 January 2025. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, and the Second Secretary of this diplomatic mission, Rolando Dávila Gallardo, attended the ceremony celebrating the 48th anniversary of the ‘José Martí’ Technical High School, one of the four educational centres donated by the Cuban people to the brotherly Jamaican people, which opened its doors on this same date in 1977.

During the activity Gary Mendez, President of the Graduates Association, and Sandra Sawyer, President of the Board of Directors of the institution, defined the centre as a continuation of the legacy of the Cuban National hero José Martí and an icon of hope for all its students and thanked the Cuban people and government for such a precious gift. They also referred to the deep bonds of brotherhood that have united the school with our country since its inauguration.

In his words to those present, the Ambassador conveyed Cuba's pride that ‘students, teachers, workers and the community as a whole contribute to the School being recognised for its excellence in education and that its graduates are professionals who serve their homeland in different sectors’. He also called on them to be faithful to the institution's motto: ‘working and studying to be the total man’.

As part of the event, an awards ceremony was held, recognising the outstanding work of a group of students in different academic spheres.
