José Martí Technical School celebrates 170th anniversary of the birth of our National Hero

Spanish Town, 27 January 2023. The "José Martí" Technical School hosted one of the actions to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the birth of our National Hero, with the presence of the Cuban Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, the coordinators of the Medical and Educational brigades and other members of the state mission.

Students from the school read a biography of the Apostle in English and Spanish, demonstrating their acquired language skills. School Board President Sandra Swyer Watson acknowledged the strength of the Cuban nation and the unconditional support for the Jamaican people.

Alexander Shaw, President of the Graduate Association, urged the students to follow Martí's example and not to let their talent go to sleep, to honour the institution to which they belong and to remember Martí's legacy in their future lives.

Ambassador Quiñones highlighted the imprint of Marti's ideology in the educational policy deployed by the Revolution and in the solidarity and humanist vocation of the collaborators who work in Jamaica, while emphasizing that the cruel blockade of the United States government against the people will not limit their spirit of solidarity and commitment to the Caribbean nations. The diplomat called on the "new pines" to make use of Martias teachings to be good men and women who contribute to the future of their homeland.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the visitors paid tribute to José Martí in front of the bust that honours his memory and planted a stand of Blue Majagua, the Jamaican national tree, as a symbol of the ties of brotherhood between the two nations.
