Geneva, May 23, 2017. In the framework of the current World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, the Secretary of the Cabinet of Health of Kenya, Dr. Cleopa Mailu, and the Cuban Minister of Public Health, Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, signed today a memorandum of understanding on health cooperation between the two countries.
The memorandum will enable the African country to develop skills and acquire expertise in areas such as biotechnology, oncology, nephrology, intensive care, cardiovascular surgery, drug manufacturing and equipment and device registration.
The agreement will also pave the way for the two countries to collaborate in the pharmaceutical sector and explore investment opportunities in the Kenyan health sector, especially in the manufacture of antiretroviral drugs, antimalarials, vaccines, gases and medical devices.
Both Ministers represent their countries at the current World Health Assembly, where a new Director General will be elected, who will assume his functions for a period of five years on July 1, 2017.
