The Saint Lucia Labour Party held its annual conference at Stanley Jon Odlum High School, which was attended as a guest by the Ambassador of Cuba, Alejandro Simancas. During his speech the leader of this political force Philip J Pierre expressed his solidarity with Cuba and called for the removal of the trade embargo on Cuba and the immediate cessation of all economic and political sanctions contemplated or imposed on the people of Cuba by the United States government. At another time during his speech, he recalled the contribution that Cuba has made to Santa Lucia in education and the training of professionals, and expressed his gratitude for this support. The applause of the public, reflected the traditional relations of friendship and solidarity between the peoples of Saint Lucia and Cuba. Cuba deeply appreciates the gestures of solidarity and support from Saint Lucia and, in particular from the Labour Party, to put an end to 60 years of the blockade, which today the United States government intends to reinforce.
