LANDS: Denouncing Cuba´s inclusion on the United States list of state sponsors of terrorism

We extend our support to you and continue to shake in indignation against Cuba’s 62 year fight against unilateral sanctions imposed on it by the United States of America and the totally illegitimate inclusion on its state sponsors of terror list.

Cuba’s inclusion on the state sponsor of terror list is based on Columbia’s former president Iván Duque’s disregard for his country’s own peace process. We note the words of the Columbia president before him J.M Santos – “Cuba should be applauded for the crucial role it played in helping end decades of conflict and facilitate reconciliation in Colombia, and should not face sanctions for having done so.” Cuba is helping to support a deal for the possibility of peace in Columbia, a country whose forests have been cut down and whose people have been displaced from their land and killed to feed the habits and addiction of people in the USA and Europe.

Cuba’s historic and ongoing contribution to the region and the world was outlined by Fidel Castro in 2003 when he said “Doctors not Bombs”. Doctors to the Guinea-Bissauan’s and Angolans waging an armed struggle for national liberation against groups backed by NATO and the former Apartheid regime of South Africa, training for doctors from Palestine to care for those who survive indiscriminate and cowardly massacres of the Zionist settler regime.

It is hard to estimate in Jamaica alone how many of our people have benefited from the services of doctors, nurses and teachers from Cuba ever since the first Cuban doctors arrived to Savanna-la-Mar hospital almost 50 years ago. From elderly people whose cataracts have been removed to those children who have avoided the terrible effects of malaria.

We commend the dignity of the Cuban people, the men, women and children who daily face the impacts of aggression from the United States’ sanctions and who continue to provide the highest example for people struggling against neo-colonialism for the construction of socialism in the region and in the world over.

Warmly,
Jamaica LANDS
